To test whether they are working properly put water and if it drains out then it is functional. For much severe clogging use a speedometer cable that will clear out the debris efficiently as it has a better reach in the drain. Only when the Air filters need change is when it should be replaced. Unclip the retainers that hold it then remove the air filter from the box during inspection. The use of a shop light is needed for the filter examination. Do replacement when 50 % light is blocked out.
